Festival season! 🕺🪩 Sustainable edition 💚

Charlotte (28) has worked as a high fashion model for years. During these years she found out how polluting the fashion industry can be. In 2020 she came into contact with the term ‘slow fashion’ and decided to take a closer look at her own consumption behavior. Since 2023 she has been a sustainable model at modeling agency Belle & Co and writes blogs about her quest for a more sustainable life. View her modeling portfolio and book her!

It’s Summer! 🌱 Festival season is in full swing. Perhaps you’ve been to a couple of festivals already,
or you might have your favourite festival coming up soon. I love going to music festivals and putting
effort into creating new makeup looks and wear my favourite summer outfits. Just a little extra of
everything.

Before I go to a festival, to which I’m looking forward to the whole year, I get the urge to
go shopping for a new outfit, and most of my friends as well. While a funky matching shirt and
short might look fashionable – for one season – this urge stimulates overconsumption. Clothing
brands tap into that eagerness of consumers by displaying their “festival summer outfits”.

This year at Down The Rabbit Hole, I saw many girls wearing the same Uniqlo
bag. This bag might be trendy this year, and will, most likely, not make it till the next year. Fanny
packs don’t seem fashionable any more. I got mine a couple of years ago and still love wearing it
to every festival I go to. And fanny packs will return into fashion eventually.

Do you have the same shopping urge as I have before going to a festival? Think about these tips
to stop over consuming and just enjoy your festival more sustainable.

1. Go shopping in your own closet!
You probably already have special items that would fit the festival theme, and you don’t need to go
shopping for new ones. I found a golden dress that I bought for NYE in 2017. It worked perfectly as
a summer dress at a festival.

2. Purchase items that fit your wardrobe
If you do decide to buy something new, go for an item that you’ll wear after the festival season
as well. Is it an item that you can wear with different things, in various seasons? Then it might
be worth it to purchase something new. I bought a biker short (People Tree, via Sophie Stone) for
Down the Rabbit Hole, which I now wear when I go to the gym.

3. Bio glitters
Glitter fan? Try glitters that don’t contain microplastics. Biodegradable glitters look great,
and you still shine on the dance floor!

4. Organic sunscreen
Of course we all know by now that wearing sunscreen is extremely
important, especially when you’re outside dancing in the sun all day. I’m using the organic and
plastic free sunscreen of Food for Skin

And last but definitely not least: 🐝 happy with who you are!
Cheesy, but true. The most important thing is that you enjoy the moment. Fun, freedom, and being
with your friends is way more valuable than the way you look in your next profile pic.

Enjoy the rest of the festival’s summer!
